Tree Care
In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the fantastical Fangorn Forest is actually alive—with tree creatures called Ents. These living, thinking, talking creatures seem just what trees would be—if they could actually talk. The real tree care experts as trees themselves?
Research suggests that the idea of the Ents isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem. German tree expert and research Peter Wohlleben has been studying tree care for decades, and his findings are nearly as surprising as the Ents of Fangorn Forest. Here’s a sample of some of those findings:
Mother trees feed their young
Juveniles of any species are fragile, and that includes trees. Wohlleben’s research has concluded that mother trees feed their young just enough sugars produced through photosynthesis to keep them from dying. This feeding gives them a jump start in life.
Trees have social circles
Wohlleben has concluded that trees of the same species are connected in a forest by a network formed by their roots. Those roots have tips that are highly sensitive, almost brain-like structures. Even more amazing is this: those structures can distinguish whether roots belong to the same or a different species.
Trees can even remember—and learn
Wohlleben has found that, after a heavy drought, trees that had suffered through the dry period consumed less water the next spring. They had more water left for the hot summer months. He suggests this ability to “remember” a prior experience can be considered a form of primitive decision-making.
Knowing this, do you see your trees in a new light? At Advanced Tree Care, we certainly do. That’s why we think tree care is so very important. And winter is no season to shirk on tree care, as storms, winds, and heavy snow can all take a toll on trees.
This time of year, we suggest you entrust preventive tree care to our experts:
- This season is optimal for trimming and pruning. We can trim trees from near your home or power lines. It’s also easier to spot deadwood when the leaves have fallen.
- Have your trees inspected for fractured limbs and vulnerable branches. Doing so can keep your trees safer during storms.
- Protect young trees—stake them, and keep them safe from hungry animals making a visit to your yard.
If a winter storm ravages a tree in your yard, make sure you call for emergency tree removal right away. Damaged trees can be dangerous. Our emergency tree removal service is available 24/7, and we promise a response time of under one hour.
