Top Tips for Christmas Tree Care

January 2, 2018 by admin

Christmas Tree Care

At Advanced Tree Care, we don’t usually care for trees after they’re down. This time of year, however, has trees on many people’s minds. Christmas tree care is an important part of many holiday celebrations and family traditions.

As many families purchase fresh-cut Christmas trees, we’re offering some tips on making the most of your (cut) tree this season.

Choosing a Tree

tree-care-tips-for-Christmas
Caring for your Christmas Tree can extend its useful life in your home.

Some families head for the ultimate choose-your-own-tree experience, heading out into the exurbs and beyond in search of the perfect fir, pine, or spruce. Others shop one of the pop-up Christmas tree lots that line city and suburban streets, or purchase a tree from an area garden center or nursery. If you’re purchasing a pre-cut tree, keep these Christmas tree care tips in mind:

  • Support local farmers with USA-grown trees. Christmas trees are a crop like any other, so you should support local agriculture.
  • Choose a fresh tree, and follow your nose—fresh trees have a pleasing aroma.
  • Check the ground for needles. If there are lots of needles around the trees, don’t purchase your tree from this source.
  • Fresh trees should feel heavy.
  • To assess a tree’s freshness, pull a branch towards you through your hand. The needles should not fall off.
  • Once you’ve chosen a tree, ask for a fresh cut from the base while you’re still on the lot.

Christmas Tree Care

Once you have your tree home, you’ll want to care for it properly to make sure it lasts the entire season.

  • Let your fresh-cut tree relax slightly once you bring it indoors and place it in its stand, before you put on lights and ornaments.
  • Fresh-cut trees are thirsty. Fill your tree stand with water, and keep it filled. Your tree could consume as much as one gallon of water in twenty-four hours.
  • Keep the water level in the stand always above the tree’s base.
  • Trees do better in cooler temperatures. Keep the tree away from heater vents, radiators, and space heaters.
  • Do not feed your tree using sugar or soda. Use a professional tree preservative in the water in its base.

Christmas Tree Disposal

When the holidays are over, it’s time to dispose of your Christmas tree. Dry trees can be a fire hazard, so be prompt in removing all ornaments and lights. Check with your local municipality on regulations and times for tree disposal or pick-up. Some communities offer tree recycling, where trees are collected and made into mulch or otherwise reused.

Best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season from the team at Advanced Tree Care.

Trees Care—Do You Take Care of Your Trees?

For the best tree care, provided by certified arborists. Give us a call today!

In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the fantastical Fangorn Forest is actually alive—with tree creatures called Ents. These living, thinking, talking creatures seem just what trees would be—if they could actually talk. The real tree care experts as trees themselves?

Research suggests that the idea of the Ents isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem. German tree expert and research Peter Wohlleben has been studying tree care for decades, and his findings are nearly as surprising as the Ents of Fangorn Forest. Here’s a sample of some of those findings:

Mother trees feed their young

Juveniles of any species are fragile, and that includes trees. Wohlleben’s research has concluded that mother trees feed their young just enough sugars produced through photosynthesis to keep them from dying. This feeding gives them a jump start in life.

Trees have social circles

Wohlleben has concluded that trees of the same species are connected in a forest by a network formed by their roots. Those roots have tips that are highly sensitive, almost brain-like structures. Even more amazing is this: those structures can distinguish whether roots belong to the same or a different species.

Trees can even remember—and learn

Wohlleben has found that, after a heavy drought, trees that had suffered through the dry period consumed less water the next spring. They had more water left for the hot summer months. He suggests this ability to “remember” a prior experience can be considered a form of primitive decision-making.

For the best arborists and certified tree care specialists, call Advanced Tree Care.

Knowing this, do you see your trees in a new light? At Advanced Tree Care, we certainly do. That’s why we think tree care is so very important. And winter is no season to shirk on tree care, as storms, winds, and heavy snow can all take a toll on trees.

This time of year, we suggest you entrust preventive tree care to our experts:

  • This season is optimal for trimming and pruning. We can trim trees from near your home or power lines. It’s also easier to spot deadwood when the leaves have fallen.
  • Have your trees inspected for fractured limbs and vulnerable branches. Doing so can keep your trees safer during storms.
  • Protect young trees—stake them, and keep them safe from hungry animals making a visit to your yard.

If a winter storm ravages a tree in your yard, make sure you call for emergency tree removal right away. Damaged trees can be dangerous. Our emergency tree removal service is available 24/7, and we promise a response time of under one hour.

Five Things to Consider When Looking for Tree Services Near Me

October 30, 2017 by admin

Evaluating Tree Services Near Me

When looking for tree services near me, it’s important to ensure you choose a reliable, trustworthy company. As with any professional service, you should select a provider who will give you high-quality service, meet your needs, and be prompt, responsive, and courteous.

Beyond those factors, however, there are a few other considerations you should have in mind when looking for tree services near you.

Lincolnshire-tree-services-near-me
We provide an advanced level of service.

#1: Look for a licensed tree service led by a certified arborist

Choose a tree service led by a certified arborist. The knowledge, skills, and experience of a certified arborist set a true professional tree service apart. What’s more, tree work can be dangerous, and it requires skilled, trained professionals with the right safety gear and equipment. You’ll also want to choose a tree service with a business license.

#2: Choose a tree service that is insured

Before hiring anyone, ensure that the service you’re considering holds current liability insurance. Ask to see a copy of the insurance policy to verify it’s current. If you have tree work done by a company that’s uninsured, and there is an accident that causes property damage or injuries, you could face significant costs and a lawsuit.

#3: Pay attention to ‘area of service’

Most tree services define a particular area of service, and their employees will not travel outside it. If your search results don’t turn up a company with a reputation you can trust, you can expand your search to include a neighboring community. You might also consider tree services that seem to have a sizeable footprint: for example, Advance Tree Care operates within a nine-county, two-state service area. That’s a lot of community coverage.

We review all of our work to ensure the service requested is the service provided.

#4: Know what service you’re requesting

Some people only call a tree service when they have a situation that requires tree removal, from storm damage or disease. Others contact tree services for advice on trimming and pruning. We help our clients understand that tree service is an investment in your property—up to 15% of your landscape can be trees. Proper seasonal care and trimming are important to ensure your trees look their best and live long, healthy lives. When we’re contacted about trimming, pruning, and other maintenance, we talk with—and listen carefully to—our clients to understand what they want, so that we can provide service that exceeds their expectations.

#5: Understand average costs and estimates

Most tree services prepare an estimate that includes a minimum trip charge plus an hourly estimate for the labor performed on site. The arborist makes an educated guess on what the job will take in terms of hours, and uses this educated guess for the estimate. Actual costs can differ once the company is on-site. Though it’s natural to consider costs first, you should focus your initial search and inquiry on tree services that have an excellent reputation for value and customer service.

Beyond these five criteria, you should also look for a tree service with excellent customer service. At Advanced Tree Care, we pride ourselves on the excellence of our customer service, from your initial call to the care with which we clean up your property when the job is done.

Advanced Tree Care combines top-notch equipment, cutting-edge technology, and well-trained staff to provide emergency tree removal and tree maintenance services.
